Dear Readers: What do you want?

Beer at 6512 is closing in on its first anniversary. The 'ol Durango beer blog is nearing 8,000 all-time hits and has logged 160 posts.

I enjoy doing it. It's fun learning more about craft beer and sharing it with you.

But the damn thing has yet to bring in a dime. (Google Adsense doesn't pay until you reach a certain threshold, which at this rate, is years away). And sometimes, writing on the Internet feels like mumbling into an abyss.

So I think the time has come for a little check-in with you guys, my readers. What do you like? What do you want to see more of? What's a waste of time and space?

At the bottom of the blog, if you'll scroll down, there's a reader poll. Click on whatever you want to see more of. Also feel free to leave a comment or e-mail me.

I want Beer at 6512 to be relevant to you and worth my time, too. Please let me know how I'm doing and what you want to see.

  1. Free beer. That would make the blog way better.

  3. That's not going to happen. I know everybody loves free stuff, but I'm not Ed McMahon. Anything else?

  4. I'm a pretty recent reader of this blog, so I don't know how much of this you've already touched on in the past, but here are a few things that I'm interested in:

    1. Conversations between brewers that compare and contrast their (or others) brewing styles, hop prefereces, yeast strains, etc.

    2. An in depth article on where all of the ingredients in a local beer come from, how far they have to go to get them, etc.

    3. What's the life of a local brewer like? Does he/she visit hop farms out in the middle of nowhere to hand pick hops, or take trips to Belgium to try super rare beers?

    4. What are local brewers doing here (if anything) that's different than elsewhere?

    5. I realize too, that in all of our beeryness here, we still can't get certain styles/brands of beer in Durango unless we travel to Denver or out of state. Is anyone doing anything to remedy this situation? I do realize you try to focus on local beers but regardless, I feel it would still make for an interesting article.

  5. I prefer free beer. free, rare, cold, beer, delivered to my door by an attractive person, don't even care if its a guy or girl as ling as the beer is freezing cold and delicious with hints of fresh hops and the finest malted barley.

  6. It took me a good year and a half to hit my first Google AdSense milestone, but ya, beer blogging doesn't pay well. It may get you some free beer every now and then (FCC wants us to tell them about this) but unless you can figure out a way to sell a product, ad revenue for us bloggers just doesn't add up much. Grats on you pending 1st bloggerversary. Dedication can pay off in the long run in more than just $$$.

After studying my blog stats, I find that I get the most traffic out of homebrewing articles. Even though I don't homebrew that often, when I do write about it, that seems to have the most appeal.

Think about articles that have lasting appeal and solve needs or problems. That will boost visitors. Don't forget to use social media as a 2ndary outlet for the blog. It helps.

  8. Hey is there gonna be a Snowdown homebrewers' contest again this year? Because if so it's nigh time to get brewing for it!
